About sanitationworkers.in
sanitationworkers.in brings India's scattered sanitation knowledge — SOPs, model contracts, training material, case studies, and policy evidence — into one searchable, AI-guided hub. It exists so that a city official, a practitioner, a donor, a researcher, or a citizen can find the exact document they need, with every AI-generated answer traceable back to the verified source it came from.
Who runs this platform
sanitationworkers.in is an initiative of Urban Management Centre (UMC), a women-led, not-for-profit organisation founded in 1997. UMC began as the South Asia project office of the International City/County Management Association (ICMA) and continues today as an ICMA affiliate partner, working with government, donor, and civil-society partners on urban governance, climate resilience, sanitation and WASH, capacity building, and GovTech across India and beyond. UMC's mission is simple: “Making Cities Work for Everyone.”
Why UMC built this
UMC is an empanelled Swachhata Knowledge Partner (SKP) under India's Swachh Bharat Mission 2.0, supporting capacity-building initiatives that strengthen sanitation and solid-waste management service delivery nationally. sanitationworkers.in extends that work into a public, searchable resource — so the SOPs, model contracts, and training material that otherwise sit in scattered departmental PDFs are easy for anyone to find, verify, and use.
How we keep answers trustworthy
Every AI-guided answer on this site is generated only from published, verified resources in the library — never from open-ended model knowledge — and links directly to the source it was drawn from. Standard search results are always shown alongside AI answers, so you're never dependent on the model alone. If a question can't be answered from a verified source, the platform says so rather than guessing.
